ANC is home to one of the world’s most distinct public safety departments. Each of the men and women of the ANC Airport Police & Fire Department are multidiscipline first responders providing Police, Fire and Emergency Medical services.  

More than 70 ANC Police & Fire Officers make up Alaska’s largest airport fire department and third largest police force, protecting over 10,000 airport employees and 5.7 million passengers.

Anchorage Airport Police & Fire Department earned national accreditation in March 2020.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations. The CALEA Accreditation program seals are reserved for use by those public safety agencies that have demonstrated compliance with CALEA Standards and have been awarded CALEA Accreditation by the Commission.

The Airport Police and Fire Department provides basic emergency medical services to the traveling public and employees at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. Officers are prepared to handle a wide variety of medical emergencies. Officers are required to maintain certification as Emergency Trauma Technicians (ETT) and in CPR. Other emergency medical training includes use of automatic defibrillators for resuscitation and how triage is performed in the event of a mass-casualty incident.

The Airport Police and Fire Department delivers the highest standard of service to Alaskans and visitors from all over the world at one of the busiest cargo airports in the world.

One of the unique responsibilities of being an Airport Police and Fire officer is providing firefighting and rescue services in the event of an aircraft incident or accident at the airport.

Additionally, officers may be required to respond to a wide variety of other firefighting emergencies such as structure fires and water rescue incidents.

General safety for the traveling public and employees at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is a fundamental responsibility for the Airport Police and Fire Department. All Airport police officers are certified law enforcement officers in the State of Alaska. The Airport Police and Fire Department takes a special interest in serving the public and maintaining a customer-oriented environment.

Within the Airport Police and Fire Department, specialized teams are used to further maintain the unique safety needs at Ted Steven Anchorage International Airport. Specialized teams are composed of highly skilled officers that have been chosen based on merit. Teams include Investigations, Explosives Ordnance Disposal, K-9, Drug Interdiction, and Water Rescue.

Police Academy
Hired recruits will attend a Law Enforcement Academy. After successfully completing the academy you will receive an Alaska Police Standards Counsel Certificate.
